If I could write a letter to myself when I was your age, I’d tell me not to worry so much, to try hard to study and learn everything I could, and to try and understand the world as best I could! Most of the issues I thought were important at school I was wrong about – the important thing, I think, is what you learn and remember 🙂

Be curious… Be driven… Be passionate… Find a focus and persevere with it until you are satisfied with the end result. I read in a book very recently that it is traits like being curious and persistent that are great markers of intelligence and success. I am not a “genius”.. I didn’t only get A’s at school, and I didn’t get any in my A-Levels. Whilst I didn’t do badly in the slightest, and whilst I sincerely encourage you to work very hard to get good grades because they are the reason why I was accepted for higher education qualifications, I strongly encourage you to be curious, driven and determined, because those traits will hopefully take you on many successful paths through your life!

Work hard, but work smart (this takes a long time to learn). Follow your dreams. Explore the world around you and don’t isolate yourself in a bubble. Don’t sweat the small stuff. 😀

Believe in yourselves, you can achieve awesome things if you set out to chase them and work hard at it. Dont worry if you sometimes fail along the way, learn from mistakes and come back stronger 🙂 Opportunities to work in human spaceflight are out there for anyone!
