I applied online for this job in Antarctica, just like any other job really. It took a while to hear from them, but they contacted me and we had a phone interview, which was pretty relaxed. I then went to Cambridge for a normal interview which also was fairly relaxed compared to others I’ve been to!

One of the most important things they’re looking for – more important than technical skill – is how mentally prepared and able you are to adjust to a life for a long period with a small group of people, isolated from the rest of the world. So the interview was really just a chat, talking about what I liked and what I liked to do. Very calm.

I also had to do a medical exam to make sure I was fit enough to do the job, but that wasn’t too hard!

Some parts of the process are a bit like astronaut selection, but it’s much easier to go to Antarctica than it is to go to space, so I found the process not too hard!
