• Question: When you go to Antarctica is it really pitch black in winter

      Yes.

      The sun sets and then doesn’t rise for 105 days – more than three months without sunshine! However, for moast of this time there’s a “glow” over the horizon, like before sunrise or after sunset in the UK. This can be quite bright around noon but most of the day, and all the time in the middle of winter, it is super dark. One time, I had to walk out in the dark and all the lights on the base went out because of a power cut. It was amazing how black it was…!
